Concrete stencils are used to create patterned concrete over existing concrete surfaces with the use of concrete paint or decorative concrete coatings, as well as fresh poured gray concrete or colored concrete slabs. When compared to stamped concrete, stenciling concrete is an economic decorative concrete solution to making tile patterns, brick patterns, and stone patterns on your patio, pool deck, driveway, sidewalks, etc.
Our concrete stencils are a non-adhesive decorative concrete stencil that is poly coated on both sides to help repel moisture. They are typically used one time then thrown away. We offer field stencils that will be used on the main part of the concrete surface, circles that can be used for accents, and borders that are usually placed along the edge of the concrete surface or across the control joints.
The field concrete stencils are available in full rolls which are 1,076 sq ft., and half rolls which are 538 sq ft. All border stencils are 1 ft wide and 321 ft. long, and the circles are available in a cobble stone or a brick pattern, and are either 36 inches in diameter or 84 inches in diameter.
The stencils will be held down on the existing concrete surfaces with a reusable adhesive called blu tack which is in the box with the stencil. Afterwards, a concrete coating can be sprayed over the top to create the pattern on the concrete surface. When placing the concrete stencils on fresh poured concrete, the blu tack will not be used. The concrete coating best recommended is the light base spray coat which can be used as a base coat as well should a different colored grout line be desired.
Additionally, grout tape may also be used in place of concrete stencils on existing concrete. The tape is typically used to create custom patterns, usually consisting of larger stones than what the concrete stencils are available in. Also great if concrete paint is going to be used so there is less chance of bleed through under the tape.
We offer 3 different types of concrete stains; Acid stains, which are reactive concrete stains, Enviro stains, which are non hazardous water based concrete stains, and Acetone Stains which are concentrated concrete stains that are either applied with acetone or denatured alcohol. Depending on the use, color choices and desired results, each concrete stain is unique and offers its own characteristics. Great for patio staining, pool decks, driveways, interiors and exteriors.
Concrete staining can turn new or old concrete surfaces into works of art. Concrete staining is probably the easiest application with lasting results, however if not installed properly can result in undesired finishes. By far the most common concrete stain used is the acid stains. Almost every floor that you find with a chemical stain on it will be acid stained concrete. However, the lack of colors available for acid stains has opened up the market for the water based concrete stains and the acetone concrete stains.
As seen above, the water based and acetone based concrete stains are available in a larger color selection. The water based stains are typically more vibrant while the acetone stains are more rustic like the acid stained concrete options. Because the envirostains are non hazardous, they offer the most friendly working environment whereas when applying the acid stains or the acetone stains, proper ventilation and safety equipment will be needed.
Before applying concrete stains to any concrete floor, be sure that the floor is free of any sealer, paint, glue, dust, etc, as all of these will cause problems for the stains. If the concrete floors that are to be stained are not good surfaces for staining, then an overlay such as patch it stain base can be used first, then the concrete stain can be applied to it. Always remember to seal the surface afterwards to help protect the new concrete stained floor.
